Amend the bill by striking out everything after section 1 and before the summary and inserting the following:

Sec. 2. Progress report. By February 1, 2008, the Department of Health and Human Services, Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention shall submit a report to the joint standing committees of the Legislature having jurisdiction over natural resources matters, legal and veterans affairs and judiciary matters on activities and reviews undertaken by the department in connection with public health issues relating to mold or excess moisture in buildings, the training of local health officers relating to mold or excess moisture in buildings and the warranty of habitability as it relates to landlord-tenant disputes relating to mold or excess moisture in buildings.’

This amendment strikes all of the provisions from the bill except for the requirement for disclosure of the potential for conflict of interest if mold assessment and remediation services are provided by the same person or company. It also adds a requirement directing the Department of Health and Human Services, Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention to submit a report to the joint standing committees of the Legislature having jurisdiction over natural resources matters, legal and veterans affairs and judiciary matters on activities and reviews undertaken by the department in connection with issues relating to mold and excess moisture in buildings.
