Resolve, To Review the Disciplinary Process of the Board of Licensure in Medicine

Sec. 1. Review of disciplinary process and report to Legislature. Resolved: That the Director of the Maine Quality Forum shall convene a group of stakeholders of the Board of Licensure in Medicine, including representatives of the board, particularly its consumer advocate, as well as representatives of the Office of the Attorney General, the Maine Medical Association and the public and others at the director's discretion, to review the board's current disciplinary process, to consider improvements in the due process afforded to both licensees and complainants and to ensure as much transparency in the disciplinary process as possible. The director shall submit a report based upon the review, including necessary implementing legislation, to the joint standing committee of the Legislature having jurisdiction over business, research and economic development matters no later than January 15, 2008. The joint standing committee may submit a bill based on the report to the Second Regular Session of the 123rd Legislature.

This resolve directs the Director of the Maine Quality Forum to convene a stakeholder group to review the disciplinary process of the Board of Licensure in Medicine and to make a report on any recommended improvements in the due process protections for both licensees and complainants and in the transparency of the disciplinary process.
