An Act To Authorize the Operation of Slot Machines on Indian Island in Old Town

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

Sec. 1. 8 MRSA c. 31, sub-c. 7  is enacted to read:

SUBCHAPTER 7

PENOBSCOT NATION

§ 1071 Penobscot Nation may operate slot machines

Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the Penobscot Nation may operate 400 of the 1,500 slot machines authorized under section 1020 on Indian Island in Old Town. These machines are subject to regulation by the board. One percent of gross slot machine income must be distributed to the Treasurer of State for deposit in the General Fund. The Penobscot Nation retains the net slot machine income.

This bill allows the Penobscot Nation to operate 400 of the 1,500 slot machines authorized pursuant to law on Indian Island in Old Town. These machines are subject to regulation by the Gambling Control Board. One percent of gross slot machine income must be distributed to the Treasurer of State for deposit in the General Fund. The Penobscot Nation retains the net slot machine income.
