JOINT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING FEBRUARY 8TH AS CUB SCOUT DAY

WHEREAS,  the Boy Scouts of America have provided youth with character-building programs for nearly 100 years; and

WHEREAS,  the Boy Scouts of America fosters friendships and dedication to participatory citizenship; and

WHEREAS,  the Boy Scouts of America encourages its nearly 3 million members nationwide to be fit in body and spirit; and

WHEREAS,  the Boy Scouts in Maine have rendered outstanding service to our communities through good deeds such as food drives, neighborhood cleanups, Eagle Scout service projects and visits to the elderly; and

WHEREAS,  the Boy Scouts in Maine have developed outstanding leaders through their programs; and

WHEREAS,  the Cub Scout program was introduced by the Boy Scouts of America in 1930, although its roots go back to the first days of Scouting when the “Wolf Cub” program for younger boys was established; and

WHEREAS,  more than 50,000,000 members have joined the Cub Scouts of America since its inception and no other program in history has had as far-ranging an impact on American youth as the Cub Scouts; now, therefore be it

That We, the Members of the One Hundred and Twenty-third Legislature, now assembled in the First Regular Session, on behalf of the people we represent, take this opportunity on the anniversary of the founding of the Cub Scouts of America to express our appreciation to all the boys in Maine who are and who have been Cub Scouts, for their valuable contributions to their community, their State and their Nation; and be it further

That suitable copies of this resolution, duly authenticated by the Secretary of State, be transmitted to the Pine Tree Council and the Katahdin Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America with our appreciation.
